Gugulethu became the first township in South Africa to have an official logo, which was unveiled during the Heritage Month, on 22 September 2022.
The logo was developed through an open competition among learners from high schools across Gugulethu, providing young people with an opportunity to contribute creatively to the identity and heritage of their community.
The winning design was created by Ayanda Makhalima, a learner from Gugulethu Finishing School. His artwork was selected as the official logo representing the identity, heritage, culture and aspirations of Gugulethu.
The logo was officially unveiled by Mr Ndodomzi Ntutu, a Para-Commonwealth medallist, marking an important milestone in Gugulethu’s journey to establish and celebrate its own distinct identity.
